I think these ads are great, and there’s a lot we can learn from them.

The best creative people always try to simplify their ideas, paring them down to the absolute minimum number of elements necessary to communicate the message. That is clearly what has happened here. Instead of just slapping the pack shot onto the layout, the team made the bottle integral to the idea. And, since the bottle is prominent, there was no need for a logo in the ad. It sounds easy, but it’s tough to achieve.

I have a hard time believing that the brief for this campaign was so focused on the beauty of one’s dog. But no matter. As the great copywriter Gary Lennox used to advise, “Never let the brief stand in the way of a good ad.” The idea of dog selfies is perfect for our times, and this campaign could go on forever.

Hilarious IAMS dog food ad on the rear screen of London’s black cabs
A plastic tail is stuck on the windscreen wiper and moves from right to left as if the dog was happy.
We know that in London it almost always rains, so also the wiper is almost always on, therefore at least our little sticker doggies are very happy ones.
